Hello to All:
Our last posting left us pondering the reality that we are "nothing." Today, we look at our "sufficiency." In the King's Book, we find the following statement recorded (2 Corinthians 3:5): "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God."
The first part of the text, reminds us of our nothingness: Not ... sufficient of ourselves - No ... thing is of ourselves. The last part of the text directs us to "victorious discipleship": "Our sufficiency is of God."
We find these words, of the King, recorded at John chapter 15 and verse 5: "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." Our King, Jesus Christ, is telling us that: without Him - we can do nothing! Earlier in John's gospel, we find John the Baptist speaking these words regarding Jesus Christ (John 3:30): "He must increase, but I must decrease."
Applying John the Baptist's perspective, to our own circumstances, we move closer to "victorious discipleship in Jesus Christ." We "decrease," as we embrace our nothingness. The indwelling and manifesting presence of Jesus Christ, will, "increase," in our lives, as we submit to the truth that: "Without" ... Jesus .... "we can do nothing."
Until next time, my beloved brethren, in Christ Jesus, I continue to be:
Your servant and fellow pilgrim,
Elder Theophilus
